Parents are asked to review this policy with their children prior to the beginning of the dance season.

At the Yavir School of Ukrainian Dance we believe every dancer has the right to a safe, enjoyable and rich cultural experience. Dancers are only in class for a short period each week; therefore, we expect and encourage each dancer to maintain a positive and appropriate level of conduct. One dancer’s misbehaviour should not interfere with the progress of the entire class. Our instructors are respectful of the right of each dancer to be treated in a fair manner. We will take a stepped approach to discipline depending on the level of misconduct.

Misbehaviours include repeated interrupting, inattention, distracting others intentionally, talking back to the instructor, refusal to co-operate with the instructor, pushing, roughhousing, and swearing.

1.	All misbehaviours will be dealt with by the instructor at the time of the incident. The instructor will speak to the student and identify the misbehaviour in a firm manner and the student will be asked to correct or stop the misbehaviour.

2.	If the misbehaviour continues, the student will be asked to sit for a timeout in the class.

3.	If the misbehaviour continues, the student will be asked to leave the class and will be taken to the office to sit out for the rest of the class. If the office is unsupervised, the student will remain in the class but will sit out for the remainder of the class. The parent will be notified of the misbehaviour.

4.	If the misbehaviour continues, the student will not be allowed back into the class until a corrective action plan is agreed upon by the student, parent, instructor and the Artistic Director.

5.	If the misbehaviour continues, the student may be asked to leave a class indefinitely.

Yavir School will make every effort to work with dancers and parents to find a solution to behavioural problems whenever possible.
